Harron & Associates Hits 25-Year Mark; Reports 2004 Best Year Ever
BOSTON—Harron & Associates, one of Boston’s oldest, independent event marketing firms, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2004 by mounting a record number of high-impact events for a client list that ranges from local nonprofits to global corporations, announced firm president Harron Ellenson..
"We opened our doors in 1979 and haven’t stopped growing since,” said company founder Ellenson. “This year we helped several of our multinational clients—among them world leaders in telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, and financial services—host events during the Democratic National Convention. We also handled the grand opening of a major, international biotechnology center in Cambridge, an international legal conference in Boston, the sponsorship of the annual Fisherman’s Feast in the North End, and several other challenging projects.”
Harron & Associates specializes in developing the strategy, media plan, and marketing materials for high-impact events designed to establish or enhance the positioning of a client and/or to deliver a client’s message to a targeted audience. The launch of new buildings is a specialty including over the years the award winning openings of The Shops at Prudential Center and The Natick Mall, as well as the introduction of The Four Seasons Hotel and Condominiums, The Heritage on the Garden and many more.
The company frequently coordinates sponsorships and public/private partnerships to produce memorable civic celebrations, such as the Centennial Dedication of Boston’s Symphony Hall, the annual lighting of the Nova Scotia Christmas tree at Prudential Center, the two-week port visit of the BTGlobal Challenge Yacht Race, and the annual opening of the Boston Harbor Islands.
“Over the past 25 years, Harron & Associates has always believed in doing well by doing good,” said Ellenson. “In 1979, we showcased the vocational programs of the Boston Public Schools with an event featuring Up with People and sponsored by what was then The First National Bank Boston. In 1981, we invited the Boston Ballet to dance at the Chestnut Hill Mall. It was considered shocking at the time, but it raised awareness of the ballet company and The Mall. Now cause-related marketing is integral to the business and is taught in college courses.”
In 2004 Harron & Associates counted among its clients AT&T, Prudential Financial, Sorrento Lactalis, Kirkpatrick & Lockhart LLP, the government of Portugal, Nova Scotia Tourism, Mary Baker Eddy Library, Historic New England (formerly the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities), New England Women in Real Estate (NEWIRE), Hebrew College, Jewish Women’s Archive, and others.
The company has received several industry awards, among them the 2000 Marketing Master Award of the National Association of Educational Publishers for the firm’s Riverdeep Integrated Marketing campaign; the 1993, 1994, and 1995 Maxi Awards of the International Council of Shopping Centers for the firm’s work on the Prudential Center Grand Opening, the Natick Mall Grand Opening, and the Pru Ranger Community Involvement Program, respectively; and the 1987 Merit Award of the Boston Builder’s Association for the firm’s contribution to The Heritage on the Garden.
Founder and President Ellenson has been honored with the 2001 Pinnacle Award for Achievement in Business from the Women’s Network of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and recognition for her OPSTAR (Objectives, Positioning, Strategy, Tactics, Actions, Resources) marketing plan designed for small nonprofits and schools.
